Megan's Law
Consistent with our priority to protect children under its care, the District works in partnership with the police department to promote the safety of our students. The Amherst Police now provides detailed information about convicted sex offenders on its website. Beginning in 2010, when the District receives notification from the Amherst Police Department (APD), a “Megan’s Law Notice” will be posted on the District home page with a direct link to the information available on the APD site. This provides for fast, easy and free access to pertinent information about a potential safety risk to our children. Information can also be accessed directly on-line at the NYS Division of Criminal Justice Services website.
The safety of our children is everyone’s business and all of us play a role in keeping children safe from harm. Please talk to your children about contacts with strangers, taking appropriate safety measures, and encouraging them to speak with you about situations that make them feel uncomfortable.
If you have any questions specific to Megan’s Law please contact the Amherst Police Department at (716) 689-1322. You may also obtain information by contacting the New York State Sex Offenders Registry at 1-800-262-3257.
