South, East athletic fields open

South High School celebrated the grand opening ceremony of their new athletic field on Friday, September 15 prior to the South vs. East football game.  The new home for the South Billies, 5950 Main Street,  includes a multi-purpose turf field stadium with a 2,700-seat capacity and  about 93,000 square feet of synthetic turf.  Football, soccer, field hockey and lacrosse will be played in the new stadium, which also includes an eight lane track, with ten lanes on the straightaways, encircling  the field. New track and field stations for discus, javelin, long jump, high jump, triple jumps, pole vault, and steeplechase are positioned nearby. A new concession building with restrooms, press box, scoreboard, stadium lights and sound system are also included.

East High, 151 Paradise Road, celebrated its grand opening ceremony on Friday, September 22 prior to the East vs. Sweet Home football game.  This athletic superplex is about 260,000 square feet of artificial turf and accommodates soccer, field hockey, lacrosse, baseball and football.  Permanent bleachers, two new scoreboards, field lighting, and a new concession stand have been installed.

In May 2015, voters approved a $22.4 million project for three multi-use synthetic turf athletic complexes at each of Williamsville's three high schools. At the same time, in a separate proposition, voters approved a $4.5 million plan to add  new concession stands and restrooms at each new athletic facility, as well as field lighting at North and East high schools.
