Board appoints new Assistant Superintendent for Human Resources

The Williamsville Board of Education has appointed John E. McKenna, Ed.D. Assistant Superintendent for Human Resources, effective November 1, 2017.  

Dr. McKenna joins the Williamsville administrative team from the City of Tonawanda School District where he has been principal at Fletcher Elementary School for the past 22 years.   Previously, he was an assistant principal in Niagara Wheatfield and a teacher in Niagara Falls City Schools.  “We are so fortunate to have Dr. McKenna joining us as our new Assistant Superintendent for Human Resources,” said Superintendent Scott Martzloff. “He brings a wealth of experience and outstanding leadership to this important position.”

Dr. McKenna earned his doctorate from the Department of Educational Leadership and Policy at SUNY Buffalo, a master’s degree in Educational Administration from Niagara University, and a bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education and Exceptional Education from SUNY College at Buffalo. He is past-president of the School Administrators Association of New York State (SAANYS) and former president of the Committee for Identifying and Developing Educational Leadership (CIDEL), an organization dedicated to promoting and developing educational leaders. During his career, Dr. McKenna has earned many accolades including being named the SAANYS Outstanding Educator of the Year in 2012; receiving the Phi Delta Kappa Presidential Award for Distinguished Elementary Principal of the Year in 2013; and being the recipient of the Distinguished Alumni Award from the UB Graduate School of Education in 2014.
