Candidates Sought for School Board
Candidate packets are available for anyone interested in running for the Williamsville Board of Education. Qualified candidates must be able to read and write; be a citizen of the United States; be 18 years of age; and be a resident of the school district for at least one year prior to the election.
The School Board Election is Tuesday, May 15. Three seats are up for election with terms expiring for Board President Shawn Lemay, and members Mark Mecca and Toni Vazquez. Mr. Lemay announced his intention to seek re-election while Mrs. Vazquez and Mr. Mecca remain undecided.
Prospective candidates must obtain at least 68 valid signatures, which represents two percent of last year’s total vote count. Petitions are due by 5 p.m. Monday, April 16, 2018. Necessary forms are available online at www.williamsvillek12.org/boardcandidate or may be picked up at the district office, 105 Casey Rd., East Amherst, during regular business hours. The successful candidates will serve three year terms on the nine-member board.
The Erie County Association of School Boards will present a free workshop for prospective school board candidates Saturday, March 3, 2018 at Erie 1 BOCES, 355 Harlem Road, West Seneca. Registration is from 8:15-8:30 a.m. and the program runs from 8:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Workshop topics include the election process, board-superintendent relationships, and perspectives on school board service from both new and veteran board members.
