One Giant Leap!
One Giant Leap!
July 20th marks the 50th anniversary of Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin’s first steps on the lunar surface. The Williamsville Space Lab Planetarium will be celebrating with a special event. A spectacular fulldome show will immerse you in the space race and show you what it took to put the first humans on the moon.
Also featured will be Dr. Tracy Gregg, Associate Professor of Geology at the University at Buffalo who will discuss selenology, or the geology of the moon. Apollo 11 brought almost 50 pounds of Moon rocks back to Earth in 1969. Dr. Gregg will explain how these samples fundamentally changed our understanding of Earth and the Solar System, and how Earth and the Moon formed.
We will finish off the evening with a laser show featuring music from 1969 and accompanied by spectacular laser light visualizations.
