11-18-21 Updated Quarantine Information

November 18, 2021

Dear Williamsville Central School District Families and Staff,

Earlier today, the Erie County Department of Health (ECDOH) shared updated information regarding their quarantine release protocols.  This information is available on the District’s COVID-19 Education Page.

Effective immediately, individuals who are a close contact to a COVID-19 positive person and are not fully vaccinated can be released from quarantine after the completion of seven full days (i.e., day 8) following the last COVID-19 exposure under certain conditions:

  • A diagnostic COVID-19 test – with a specimen collected and tested within 48 hours before the end of the planned quarantine discontinuation (i.e., after five days following last exposure) – is negative; and,
  • No symptoms are reported during daily monitoring

It is important to note a quarantine start date begins on the date of the last exposure to COVID-19, which would be day 0. For example, if an individual’s quarantine start date is on Friday, November 19th (day 0), they would be eligible to be released out of quarantine on Saturday, November 27th (day 8).  To be released out of quarantine on day 8, the individual must provide a negative test result from either Wednesday, November 24th (day 5), Thursday, November 25th  (day 6), or Friday, November 26th (day 7).

Acceptable diagnostic tests to be released early from quarantine include NAAT (PCR) tests and antigen tests conducted and reported by a licensed laboratory.  At-home negative test results are not acceptable.  Community based testing resources can be accessed here: Erie County Community Based Testing Resources

In accordance with this updated information from ECDOH, individuals are required to be symptom free and provide a completed affirmation form to their school building, which includes the dates of quarantine along with a negative COVID-19 diagnostic test result.  This form can be accessed here: ECDOH – Quarantine Affirmation Form.

As a reminder, fully vaccinated individuals do not need to quarantine following a COVID-19 exposure as long as they remain symptom-free.  Vaccination information and opportunities to schedule appointments through ECDOH are available here:  ECDOH Vaccination Information.

Sincerely,

Dr. Darren J. Brown-Hall
Superintendent of Schools
