Welcome to the Weekly Update!

I want to thank members of our community who joined us last weekend for the first Community Forum of the school year.

We had meaningful discussions in several areas including DEI, special education, class size, and transportation.  We look forward to continuing this dialogue throughout the year, and addressing any questions or concerns you might have.  As always, if you need to contact the Board of Education, you can send an e-mail to boardofeducation@williamsvillek12.org.

Speaking of the School Board, the next Board of Education meeting will take place on Tuesday, October 11th at 7:00 p.m. at the District Office.  The meeting will also be streamed on the District’s YouTube channel.  During this meeting we will provide an update on Transportation, COVID-19 at-home test kits, and District rebranding.

Information, including the meeting agenda, community update, and other documents and presentations, are available on the District’s website and through BoardDocs.

This week’s Superintendent Q&A is about Chromebooks.

“Why aren’t high schoolers assigned a Chromebook to use throughout their time in high school? I know many other districts provide Chromebooks from middle school and throughout high school.”

-        The District has a 1-to-1 program at the middle school level, meaning each middle school student is assigned a Chromebook to use throughout the year

-        At the high school level, students are able to participate and borrow a Chromebook through the Chromebook loaner program

-        If your high school student needs a digital device to complete their assigned work, please be sure to contact the building principal or assistant principals to get one today

-        Many of our high school students feel comfortable with their personal laptop or computer

If you would like your question answered by me in the weekly update, be sure to send your questions to contact@williamsvillek12.org by Wednesday of each week!

As we continue to improve transportation, now available on WITS is information regarding buses that are currently out of service.  When a bus is out of service, it is unable to be tracked through the MyStop app.  The substitute bus assigned to the route will not be able to be tracked through the MyStop app.  Once the bus is returned to service, it will be removed from the “Out of Service” list and able to be tracked through the MyStop app.

If you have any questions, please contact the Transportation Department by calling 716-626-8397.

This week for Hispanic Heritage Month, we are recognizing Cesar Chavez, a Mexican-American labor leader and civil rights activist who dedicated his life’s work to improving working and living conditions of farm workers in the U.S. through organizing and negotiating contracts.  In 1962, Chavez founded the National Farm Workers Association, which later became the United Farm Workers of America. Following his passing, Chavez was posthumously awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom by President Bill Clinton in 1994.

Be sure to watch the informational video on the District website, social media, or weekly newsletter on Chavez to learn more about his impact on workers’ rights.

Finally, as we wrap up, I want to thank members of our school community who joined us for a Job Fair on Thursday.  We are looking to fill numerous openings in a wide variety of areas in order to continue to provide an exceptional learning experience for all of our students.  Openings and applications are still available through our Career Opportunities page.  If you have any questions regarding an opening, please contact our Human Resources Department by calling 716-626-8053.

Remember there is no school on Monday.  Enjoy the long weekend and we’ll see you next week.
