Welcome to the weekly update!

I know for some of our middle and high school students it was a busy week with Regents Exams and mid-terms.  Tests can be stressful so be sure to take some time this weekend to decompress, relax, and recharge.

On Tuesday, January 31st, the District’s after-school bus pilot program for middle and high school students will begin.  Please be sure to review the information that was shared with students, families, and staff last week.  The after-school buses will only be available on Tuesdays and Thursdays, and students are required to sign-up by noon on those days so we can plan routes with our Transportation Department.  Links to the letter and informational sheet regarding the pilot program can be accessed in the Weekly Newsletter.  If you have any questions regarding this pilot program, please reach out to your building.

February is Black History Month and, as we have throughout the year, we will recognize the life, legacy, and impact of several individuals, including Matthew Henson, an African-American explorer who was the first man to reach the geographic North pole!  Be sure to keep an eye out for the video project honoring his accomplishment next week. Throughout the month we will also recognize Harriet Tubman, Glenn Burke, and Ona Judge.

As we continue through the winter and prepare for the spring, I want to encourage our school community to stay connected and check individual schools’ calendars for exciting happenings in January and the beginning of February.  From concerts, art shows, and field trips there is a lot to look forward to on a daily basis!

I had the pleasure of attending several PTA/PTSA meetings the past few months.  I appreciate the commitment from our parents to ensure our students have the best educational experience we can provide.  I ask that even if you are not a member of the PTA/PTSA, please volunteer for one of the many events they are planning for your child's school.

Enjoy the weekend.  We’ll see you next week!
