Welcome to the District Update!

I want to remind everyone that the next Board of Education Meeting is tomorrow, Tuesday, February 13th at the District Office. During the meeting, we will also be holding a Budget Work Session and Public Hearing regarding budget development for the 2024-2025 school year.  As we are in budget season, please stay informed and up-to-date with information leading up to our annual vote.

During the meeting, we will also be presenting the draft calendar for next school year as well. Some of the key features of the calendar include 182 student days, six snow days, and a two week break for the Winter Recess. Following the meeting, we’ll open a comment period for stakeholder feedback.  Comments can be emailed to contact@williamsvillek12.org.

I also want to encourage our school community to listen to the podcast “Achieving Joy and Mastery in Public Schools,” which is moderated by Brian Graham, Superintendent of the Grand Island Central School District.  In mid-January, myself and members of the DEI Calendar Subcommittee joined the podcast to discuss the process of identifying the additional observances and holidays on our calendar, the recommendations that were approved by the Board of Education, and formulation of the calendar that will be presented at February’s meeting.

Congratulations to the cast and crew at Williamsville South High School!  They did an exceptional job with “The SpongeBob Musical.” I am always impressed with the performances and productions our students put together. Great job!  As a reminder, Williamsville East will perform Mamma Mia! March 7th through 9th while Williamsville North will open “Legally Blonde” March 14th through 16th. Please keep an eye out for those school previews and support our musicals!

Don’t forget, President’s Day is Monday, February 19th followed by the mid-Winter Recess Tuesday, February 20th through Friday, February 23rd. Classes resume Monday, February 26th. During the break, APD is hosting Game Day on the 21st from 11 am - 1 pm for students and families in our District.

Following the break, we will be hosting our second Speaker Series of the year, “What To Do When Your Child Is Struggling In School,” on Thursday, February 29th.  We look forward to seeing you.

Finish the week strong and we’ll see you soon!
