New North High Principal, 3 New AP's Appointed
Williamsville North High School has a new principal who will be very familiar to students when he takes over August 1. Andre Thomas, currently an assistant principal at North, was appointed principal Monday night by the Board of Education. He replaces Gary Collichio who is retiring.
“Mr. Thomas is an experienced and respected educator,” said Superintendent Dr. Scott Martzloff. “He is a student-centered leader who takes a collaborative approach to promote a positive school culture and climate while upholding high expectations for academic excellence.”
Mr. Thomas’ career as an educator comes full circle when he takes the reigns as principal at the same school where he began his career as a social studies teacher in 2002. He left North in 2010 to become an assistant principal at Burgard Vocational High School in Buffalo, where he worked for three years before returning to Williamsville as an assistant principal at Heim Middle School in 2013. Thomas has spent the past three years as an assistant principal at North and has served as principal of the Williamsville Summer High School Program since 2016. “North has always been home and family to me,” he said. “I’m humbled by this experience and this opportunity.”
He earned a bachelor’s degree in History and a master’s degree in Secondary Social Studies Education from the State University of New York at Buffalo, and school building administrator certification from Canisius College. He holds a permanent certificate from New York State as a School Building Leader and as a Social Studies Teacher.
Williamsville North High School, 1595 Hopkins Rd., has about 1,400 students, making it the largest of the district’s three high schools.
Three assistant principals named
In addition to appointing a new high school principal, the Board named new assistant principals at three district schools, each to a four-year contract.
Chris McDuffie, who served previously as an acting assistant principal at Casey Middle and South High School, was appointed full time to the same post at South, effective July 9. Mr. McDuffie was a Physical Education and Health Teacher in Williamsville for three years, leaving the district briefly for Buffalo Public Schools where he was a Supervisor of Athletics. He holds a bachelor’s degree from SUNY Buffalo and a master’s degree from Canisius College.
Lindsey Kubera was named assistant principal at Maple West Elementary. Ms. Kubera has worked for the New York City Department of Education as a Special Education Liaison/Coordinator and as a Special Education teacher at the elementary level for nearly 20 years. She earned a bachelor’s degree from Ithaca College and a master’s degree from New York University.
Heidie Buffomante is the new assistant principal at Dodge Elementary. She comes to Williamsville from the Ken-Ton UFSD where she was the assistant principal at Hoover Middle School. She worked previously as an AP of Instruction at the Health Sciences Charter School in Buffalo where she also served as summer school principal, Literacy Specialist, and teacher. She holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Buffalo State College.
Ms. Buffomante and Ms. Kubera join the district administrative team August 28.
