Candidates Sought for School Board

Candidate packets are available for anyone interested in running for the Williamsville Board of Education. Qualified candidates must be able to read and write; be a citizen of the United States; be 18 years of age or older; and be a resident of the school district for at least one year prior to the election. The School Board Election is Tuesday, May 21. 

Prospective candidates must obtain at least 65 valid signatures, which represents two percent of last year's total vote count. Petitions are due by 5 p.m. Monday April 22, 2019. Necessary forms are available online at www.williamsvillek12.org/boardcandidates or may be picked up at the district office, 105 Casey Rd., East Amherst, during regular business hours. The successful candidates will serve three-year terms on the nine-member board. 

Three seats are up for election with terms expiring for members Mary Bieger, Teresa Anne Leatherbarrow, and Suzanne VanSice. All three members plan to seek reelection.

The Erie County Assocation of School Boards will present a free workshop for prospective school board candidates on Saturday, April 6, 2019 at Erie 1 BOCES, 355 Harlem Rd., West Seneca. Registration for the workshop is from 8:15 to 8:30 a.m. and the program runs from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Workshop topics include the election process, board-superintendent relationships, and perspectives on school board service from both new and veteran board members.
