UPK Funding Update
February 17, 2021
Dear UPK Families:
On Friday, February 12, 2021, you received an informational letter from the Williamsville Central School District’s Office of Exceptional Education and Student Services indicating that the New York State Education Department (NYSED) had informed school districts that they would be receiving a 20% reduction in their Universal Pre-Kindergarten (UPK) grant funding for the 2020-21 school year.
I am happy to inform you that the District received official correspondence from the NYSED’s Office of Early Learning (OEL) on Tuesday, February 16, 2021, that New York State will release the 20% withholding of our state-funded prekindergarten programs! This decision will fully restore our grant funding for the 2020-2021 UPK program back to 100% and conclude at the end of June, as intended.
The Williamsville Central School District fully supports and works closely with our UPK sites to ensure your child(ren) receive the necessary foundational elements needed to ensure a successful transition to kindergarten. We look forward to working with the UPK providers where your child(ren) is enrolled.
