Integrated Pest Management

Integrated Pest Management (IPM) is a systematic approach to managing pests focusing on long-term prevention or suppression with minimal impact on human health, the environment, and non-target organism.  The District's strategies for managing pest populations, should they develop, will be based upon the pest species and whether that species poses a threat to our students, staff, property or the environment.

The District’s IPM program was implemented in 1999.  All applications are performed by a licensed applicator, contracted by the school district.  The program goal is to use minimal amounts of pesticide to control the pest population in and around our schools (1,600,000 square feet of building space and 300 acres of grounds).

The District’s IPM program protects individuals from an imminent threat from stinging and biting insects including venomous spiders, bees, wasps and hornets. In the event of an emergency treatment, notification will be made as soon as practicable.
